1st Datchet (Ditton Park) Sea Scouts

Re-Opening of Montagu Explorer Sea Scout Unit

The Group in partnership with Windsor & Eton Scout District are pleased to announce the re-opening of the Montagu Explorer Sea Scout Unit! The unit will work in partnership with 1st Datchet and will provide young people the opportunity to continue Scouting after the finish their time with the Scout Troop. This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to take the challenge and adventure to the next level. The Unit still has spaces available so please contact us if you wish to join.

Radian & Barker Bridge Trust Funding

We are pleased to announce that the group has been awarded funding of £800 from Radian and £2065 from the Barker Bridge Fund. We have used this money to help us purchase a brand new kayak/canoe trailer. The new trailer was badly needed and we can now transport more boats to our weekly meetings allowing more Scouts to join the Group.

Race Night

The group held it's annual race night on the 19/03/16. Members families and friends came to the hut to take part in a night at the races. It was a fantastic night and we raised over £800 for the group. Click here to look at all our photos.

International Summer Camp 2015 - Germany

After a 5am start in August the Scouts, Guides and Explorers set off from Heathrow for 9 days in Germany. They camped in the grounds of the medieval Rieneck Scout Castle and took part in a range of activities including: orienteering, swimming, catapult building, hiking, archery, a tower tour and abseiling from the castle’s tower. Days out included visits to Nuremburg Castle, Nuremburg Zoo, Wurzburg and a river cruise. Our final day consisted of going back in time and taking part in a medieval day at the castle, concluding with a medieval concert. The weather was especially hot all week, at times reaching 38 degrees! Everyone had a great time and would recommend this camp. Click here to look at all our photos.

Magna Carta River Relay

On the 14th of June 2015, as part of the Magna Carta 800 celebrations the Sea Scouts represented the group by attending the Magna Carta River Relay. The Scouts joined around 200 boats forming a flotilla to escort the Gloriana from Old Windsor to Runneymede, to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta.

It was a fantastic day, the Thames was packed with man powered boats as the Gloriana arrived at Runnemede. 1st Datchet is very thankful for being able to take part in such an important event. See photos of the day here.

Splash and Burn!

On a cold Saturday the Scouts travelled to Kingsmead Sailing Club to assist clearing trees and undergrowth from an island. The sailing club wanted to clear the island to allow wind to flow across it, giving better sailing conditions.

The Scouts travelled to the island on power boats and spent the day using saws and axes to clear part of the island. They then used their fire lighting skills to burn what was felled. They finished the day with the opportunity to learn to drive a power boat, before returning to shore for chocolate cake. See photos of the day here.

British Heart Foundation - Call Push Rescue

As part of a recent campaign run by the British Heart Foundation to create a Nation of Lifesavers,  1st Datchet have taken ownership of a Call Push Rescue Kit. The kit contained a number of “Mini Anne” CPR training dolls. It’s already been put to good use by our Sea Scout Troop, allowing them to progress with their First Aid badges and also giving them skills that may save someone life. Check out the photos of the training in action HERE.

Radian Sponsorship

Radian have kindly donated us £1500. We have used the money to purchase a new trailer to help transport our kit to camps as well as some new tents. This will massively benefit the group, as we are growing in size. It will allow us to take all the required kit to camp and cater for even more scouts. The much needed tents will replace our existing ones. 1st Datchet would like to thank Radian for their support. To find out more about Radian please click here.
